I went for my first kayak for a year today. The last time I went out it was with my lovely Rosie dog who died last February. I paddled towards Te Atatu, under the motorway and around Waterview lagoon. This is a maritime reserve area so the idiot jetskiers and blokes in big boats are not allowed there. It was just me, my mate Geoff, the waterbirds and the fish. The lagoon is surrounded by mangroves and there are channels or creeks that you can gently travel up. The serenity was amazing. I feel very blessed that I can carry my kayak down to the water from the house and step into a calm an beautiful environment. Life is good, but I really missed Rosie and felt that she was watching me.

RIP Rosie.
What a powerful post.
I often think of my dog when I first get up and expect him to be at the foot of my bed.
Padling a canoe sounds so great on a calm sea at the end of a day.
Like casting a fly on a deep running stream in the early light.
