HALF BLUE

Those other bloggers professed that they were half Irish yesterday. They didn't say which half so I'll leave that up to your own imagination. Now they are saying that they are half blue.

To explain: Richard is performing music he refers to as 'almost blues' whatever that means.

I once had an Elvis Costello album titled Almost Blue and which had the title track on it:

This Chet Baker version (click "watch on Youtube") is beautiful and matches the wintry day we are having up here. It's soulful and nostalgic.

Maybe Richard was thinking of that and it's a wintry day in Wellington.

Robert said that he's off to Taupo today to sit by the lake which he romantically describes as a giant caldera that's due to explode once more. Maybe, if he doesn't dress according to the likely very cold weather there, he'll be almost blue as well.

That would go well with the half Irish thing as the Irish and the Scottish are fair skinned people living in a very cold climate and have to sunbathe just to turn white. Here's what Billy Connolly said about it:

To be honest, I didn't learn anything from that. In reality, I'm a Pakeha.

Most blues guitarists seem to prefer to play in E & A. The classic blues has 12 bars in 4/4 - four beats to a bar. In E it will look similar to this: E7/// A7/// E7/// E7/// A7/// A7/// E7/// E7/// B7/// A7/// E7/// B7///
They usually solo using a Blues Scale (minor pentatonic with a #4 - E G A A# B D). I hope that helps.
