I went to see the photographic exhibition "Who shot rock and roll" the other day.
It was OK although a bit self-indulgent. Many of the photographs were in the nature of snapshots and only famous because of the occasion, event or personage.
There were a few stunning photographs however - the Mick Jagger/leopard one, the one of Keith Richards in Prague, the Grace Jones one, the Patti Smith ones and the various British R&B ones.
One that amused was the Bill Haley one with the double bass player standing on his bass.
Why doesn't Richard of RBB do this?
It's likely he would do this if he fell over after after a few Chardonnays:
Or this when he is very affectionate towards his instrument:

Ha ha ha ha.
Actually that guy played random notes - I've heard the original recording of Rock Around The Clock.
I found it here, listen to the bass

Maybe he was a gymnast and not a bass player?
Ever since this first outing of 'rock' music rock musicians have been into excessive posing. Maybe they should have become models? Music is supposed to be about what you hear. Yes, I know, the times they are a changin'. It's all about going for the obvious these days. I just rang the parent of one of my students who is a good performer, nothing special, but he performs with much confidence. She said he was shattered that he hadn't made it onto NZ's Got Talent. Why can't people see that these shows are like winning Lotto? These shows are about television and advertising. These shows destroy the dreams of young people who often think they are better than they actually are. Why not just strive to play good music? Fame is a whole different game; one that I'm not particularly interested in.
Nice comment Richard and one I totally agree with across all endeavours. There is unreasonable expectation being instilled into young people nowadays be it employment, fame, success or striking it lucky. Everyone would be better off if we were kjust happy with what we have and look for love and contentment.
Ciao.
