Those bishops were doing exactly what bishops are supposed to do: pray for the leader of the country. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 tells us to offer prayers for kings and all in authority. The Church doesn't pray for a president because she endorses everything he does, she prays for him precisely because the office carries such heavy responsibility and needs God's guidance. Praying over a sitting president in the Oval Office isn't "aligning with power," it's asking the Holy Spirit to protect the country against evil, to give wisdom to its government, and to lead it toward the common good. That's the Church's mission. Any president, of either party, should be prayed for. The Church is not partisan. She will work with any administration on issues like protecting life, religious liberty, supporting families, and serving the poor. The Vatican itself has been clear that engaging with civil leaders is not the same as endorsing them. The vestments you mock represent 2,000 years of continuity. Mocking them doesn't make your argument stronger, it just shows you don't understand what you're criticizing. So there!
