HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

"Sectare Fidem is our rule,

We'll hold our faith while we have breath.
Loyal to home, church, crown and school,

St Patrick's sons we'll remain to death."

I attended St Patrick's College Wellington in the 1960s and don't remember celebrating St Patrick's day. Everything was blue back then, not green.

Thanks for modelling guys.

The only thing green as I remember was the jealousy of the kids in the 'G' and lower classes who envied the kids in the 'P' classes.

We did have a statue of old St Pat but it was white as I remember.

Certainly not as flamboyantly gay as this image that richard cherishes hides used in his latest post HERE .

What's a church crown?

Is it like a half crown?

I think the old fella missed out a comma.

That's my old trick! You're mean The Curmudgeon! You put in the missed out comma and pretend that nothing is wrong. At least you're learning from Richard's Bass Bag.*

Richard's Bass Bag? thought it was now Richard's Bass Bagg. Has it been demoted kind of like in that Chuck Connors TV Western 'Branded'?

I was P2 or was it G1( Richard will remember) my mate Stephan deserved higher but was mixed up thanks to the way the Nazi's treated the Polish. Of course no one really envied anyone. Most were too young to really understand why they were here or there and too afraid of Father Unveridge and his cane to care.
Life's pretty much the same now.
There is always some demented psycho in every work situation in or out of the work situation!

OK, I resisted commenting for a while but then on revisiting this post and reading Robert's comment again I just have to say:

"I was P2 or was it G1( Richard will remember)" - what the hell has does your history and remembrances have to do with Richard? Does he keep a 'book' on you?

"my mate Stephan deserved higher but was mixed up thanks to the way the Nazi's treated the Polish." - It was a Catholic school in the 1960s. All through Primary, Intermediate and Secondary in the 1950s and 1960s we had Dutch, Polish, Italian and other European Catholic refugees in New Zealand and in our schools. With all due respect to your friend Stephan he wasn't the only one although I would have thought that in 1968+, if he was born in the later 1950s his 'mixed up' issues would either have not existed or would have been resolved.

"Most were too young to really understand why they were here or there and too afraid of Father Unveridge and his cane to care."
- Well I certainly disagree on this. I remember being 'enlightened' or at least aware of life, politics and responsibilities at age 14. Maybe you reached puberty much later I don't know.

"Life's pretty much the same now. " This statement really worries me but in a way explains a lot in regard to your outlook on life and your inculcated beliefs. I wish I could help.

"There is always some demented psycho in every work situation in or out of the work situation!" - Yes there is unfortunately and I've met many over the years. The key is in not letting them get the better of you. You have to confront these 'demons' and deflate them.

Anyway, our memories are different of a similar time period which goes a long way to explain your outtakes of Catholicism and religion compared to mine (and Richard's?)
