SEARCHING FOR A NEW WESTERN

I went to see Interstellar today.

Hey, I've cut my working hours down to 20 - I have to do something.

This is a pretty classy film with some stunning effects.

It is weirdly reminiscent of 2001 A Space Odyssey which was made nearly 50 years earlier.

It's a long film and, as all Sci-Fi films, packed with real science and a lot of gobbeldy-gook which is kind of OK when the effects are good but Interstellar is marred by treacly-sweet (American) sentimentality (Kubrick would never have stooped to this) - love conquers all crap , even conquers the space-time continuum.

Apart from that it's worth a look.

Leading actor Matthew McConnaughey is worth a look as well.

He does a good job. He has really matured as an actor and doesn't have to rely on his pretty boy looks although in Hollywood this certainly helps in his commissions.
I reckon that he'd be great in a new, old-style Western in the John Ford directed style. He'd be a new Gary Cooper, Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Randolph Scott type. We need to see another of these out of Hollywood and not  Cowboys and Aliens crap or anyting from that tosser Quentin Tarantino - no, something directed by someone with John Ford's chops. Clint Eastwood as director maybe.

McConnaughey did a superb job as a modern cowboy in The Dallas Buyers Club. I'd like to see him set in the 1870's.
