APPLE BI

The new computer was delivered today.

I can now access files, emails and blog much, much faster than before when using the old one.

The old one is a 2008 model so we've had that for more than 10 years. We've had no problems with it apart from it's slowness which is due to the massive amount of files stored on it and I guess the built in obsolescence that computer companies have to encourage upgrades.

The 'new' one is 2 years old, has a larger screen, much more memory and powerful processor and has some extra 'bells and whistles'. The beauty of Apple computers is that you just take them out of the box, plug them in with a single power cable and bingo - all done.

Just think of all the new blog post series I can get out now.

THE WRATH OF GOD!

Yep, you heard it - 'The Wrath of God' has been called down on the heads of all of those predator priests.

Note how the pope's wings unfurl when he gets riled up.

Watch this up to 2 minutes and 29 seconds:

TROUBLE WITH THE PERVS

So good old Pope what's his name has brought out the big guns against the nasty paedophiles. Whoopty-do. I bet that they're shaking in their boots.

This is why The Religious Curmudgeon is setting out to get his Doctor of Divinity degree. He can then go to Rome to get these idiots to wake their ideas up.

BACK TO SCHOOL

I've decided to go back to school starting from tomorrow.
Fortunately I can do this from home with a one night a week class attendance.

What will be the study discipline?

This:

Before I can enrol in the doctorate course though I need to acquire one of these:

In New Zealand I can study for the Master of Theology which will set me up  for further research in Theology and allied fields like Religious Studies. The master's degree will cover:

  • Religion and popular culture
  • Religion and gender violence
  • Jewish literature of the Second Temple Period
  • Gender and queer approaches to religion and the Bible
  • Biblical reception history
  • Early Modern Christianity, especially the Reformation era
  • The history of religious tolerance in the West
  • Sectarianism in the English-speaking world in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries
In my discussions with the course leader I mentioned my interaction, via the RELIGIOUS CURMUDGEON's blog, with Robert and it seems that this demonstrates an enquiring mind which has qualified me. I start the course tomorrow.

This should be fun on many levels and will keep my mind alive which has been in danger of atrophying.

I'm looking forward to when I'm degree qualified and can flip out my badge when Robert gets a bit bolshy.

ADELAIDE

Your friend wanders alone in the garden of spring,
Gently bathed in lovely magical light,
Which shimmers through the swaying branches of flowers:
Adelaide!
In the reflection of the river, in the snows of the Alps,
In the golden clouds of sinking day,
In the fields of stars thy face beams forth,
Adelaide!
Evening breezes whisper through the tender leaves
The silver bells at Maytime rustle in the grass,
Waves roar and nightingales sing,
Adelaide!
Some day, o miracle! a flower will blossom,
Upon my grave from the ashes of my heart;
And clearly on every violet petal will shine:
Adelaide!

****************

The Old Girl went to Adelaide yesterday. She'll be there for work over the next month which means that I'll be 'baching' again. Christmas and New Year was great as she spent a long holiday period here and only just went back to work in Auckland last week. I've gotten used to her cooking most evenings and the house has certainly been a lot tidier. I've had to do a couple of hours of housework today! *

I thought about going to Adelaide to visit with her for a week or a few days but it's still hot over there:

Before Christmas it was in the mid 40s - horrendous. I remember years ago being in wine country in Western Australia in 44 degree heat. The sun felt 'heavy' on your head and just walking about was an effort.

The thought was that we'd go visit some wineries but the idea of doing this in nearly 40 degree heat was daunting and anyway, we've done this before and she will be busy on the work project so I'm staying at home. I get tired in the afternoons so I'm better off here.

There was a time when I loved Australian wines. The big robust chardonnays tended to leave New Zealand's average offerings for dead and the massive, rich and chewy Cabernets, Shiraz and Grenaches were unequalled. Now, with warmer temperatures and a less vibrant industry, to me, Australian wines are not offering as much interest as New Zealand (and Californian) wines do. Now I don't drink as much wine as I did with generally just one or two glasses of chardonnay sufficing. When I rarely drink red wine now it is only Pinot Noir and then just a glass. The thought then of traipsing around South Australian wineries drinking massive alcohol blockbuster wines in baking heat just doesn't appeal.

.

* Just kidding.
