GETTING REAL

The good news about having taken a job in Auckland is that I will be earning some decent money again and contributing to the family finances.
The obvious bad news is having to move away from the idyllic location we currently live in. Sure we will still have the house but at best will probably only get back here every second weekend. We will have to make sure that we don't let it stretch out beyond that.
The apartment in Auckland is great for a few days visit or The Old Girl on her own using it during the week but the two of us with lots of our stuff living there all the time will be too much of a challenge.

And then there is the cat who will need a place to go do do her business

so we will look for a townhouse with a small garden to rent.

With renting out our apartment the differential won't be too great.

The interesting thing I've discovered with renting vs. buying in the Auckland inner city area is that as rentals are at a premium it may be cheaper or at least not much more costly to buy another property. The weekly mortgage on a $300k two bedroom property is the same as the weekly rental of a townhouse or cottage. I will put my real estate agent hat on and have a look around at this.

Whatever we decide to do a task that is looming and which I dread is the physical move. Its less than two years since we did this last.

Best of luck. I hate moving house. It's almost as bad as teaching.

Is the trip to China still on?

Richard (for the third time) the China trip kept getting delayed with February being the time. I cannot wait that long so took the job in Auckland.
