It's an amazing day in Christchurch. Cloudless blue sky, no wind and lots of sunshine. It's pretty much as I remember winters being when I lived here in the 1990s.

I haven't been outside yet but my phone app tells me that it's 5 degrees which will mean a couple of layers of warm clothing when we go out. The Old Girl's working from home here in the study but we're venturing out later this morning. This'll mean long walks (no skiving when she's around) and maybe lunch in town. I'll buy provisions to cook beef chow mein this evening.

I haven't checked out the plumbing under the house yet but suspect that, like everything else in this very modern, self regulating house that if there is a problem it fixes itself. The whole house (2 levels) has underfloor heating and automatic air conditioning that is computer controlled and will decide itself when it needs warming or cooling. All the window blinds are electrically operated and the full broadband internet means that my phone, iPad and laptop were automatically connected - I didn't have to do a thing. Robert would be in 7th heaven (what were the first 6?) here and would have SIRI doing all his things for him.

Robert posted this morning about earthquakes which is a bit unfriendly since I'm in Christchurch at present. Richard's probably in a snit because Robert said that he misses me with no mention of him.

Hey ho, it's off to town I'll go soon.

No, I wouldn’t be conning you. Those are the Southern Alps and yes they are a long way away.

This house is located more than halfway up Mount Pleasant at the Eastern part of Christchurch..
It has more than 180 degrees view looking East across some hills to Devonport; northeast across Sumner and out to sea; North to Kaikoura with the Inland Kaikoura alps that are also covered in snow; northwest across the city and West to the Southern Alps. It's pretty special, particularly the alpine view. I grew up with this view when holidaying on relatives farms in South Canterbury when I was a kid and we lived in Christchurch for 5 years in the 1990s in a house with a view of the Southern Alps. Magic!

It's been an outstanding day today and we did walk all the way down the mountain and back again to do our shopping so I feel that I've done something.
It was so warm that I had to take off two of the three layers of clothing I was wearing and wished that I'd been wearing shorts instead of track-pants. This in the South Island in August!
Tonight, with the super clear skies I'm hoping to see the meteor showers that I missed out on seeing at home last week due to cloud cover. This will be after midnight.
