WHAT'S IN A NAME?

 When watching the exciting rowing events at the Paris Olympics I was intrigued by mention of the Sinković brothers Valent and Martin from Croatia.

I did a Google search to see if they had ever sunk their boat but had no luck except for this image:

It got me thinking about what other humorously connected names of athletes there are competing and Topend Sports provided these:

J. Christ — a rower at the 2024 Paris Olympics from Germany. There were many jokes about him being able to walk on water.

Agustín Loser — volleyball player from Argentina, finished 3rd in Tokyo 2020.

Gavin Smellie — Canadian sprinter, 2012 &2020.

English Gardner — US sprinter at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics. Best result was winning gold in 2016 in the 4x100m relay.

Kim Yoo-Suk — South Korean pole vaulter in 2004-2012.

Brooke Sweat — USA Beach volleyball player 2016.

Odd-Even Bustnes — rower from Norway at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics.

Hulk — Brazilian football player at the 2012 London Olympics.

Dong Dong — male trampoliner from China, completed at the 2008-2020

 Olympics. His best result was winning gold in 2012.

Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon — Thai weightlifter who won the women's Featherweight in Beijing 2008. It is the longest ever name of an Olympic gold medalist.

Bo Hamburger — Danish cyclist in the 2004 road race.

Tennys Sandgren — American tennis player at the 2020 Olympics.

Armand Bigot —Equestrian from France, competed in 1972 &1984.

Lois Drinkwater — US runner in the women's 400m at the 1968 Summer Olympics.

Mark English — from Ireland (800m runner in 2016, 2020).

Man Afraid of the Soap — he was a member of the Mohawk Indian lacrosse team that won bronze in 1904. Other members of the team included: Almighty Voice, Flat Iron, Half Moon, Rain in Face, Snake Eater and Spotted Tail.

Zhu Ting — a chinese soccer striker, pronounced shoo-ting.

Alan Ball — English footballer, played in the 1966 World Cup winning team.

Mark De Man — Belgian football defender.

Toby Savin — English football goalkeeper.

Usain Bolt — 100m and 200m world record holder and Olympic Gold medalist.

Marina Stepanova — 1986 400m hurdle WR holder

Yordanka Donkova — Bulgarian female hurdler who won an Olympic gold and bronze medal.

Tripp Hurt — US steeplechaser.

James Jett — 1992 Olympic 4 X 100 relay runner.

Nathan Leeper — an American high jumper, finished eleventh at the 2000 Olympic Games.

Holly Rush — an ex international road marathon runner turned ultra trail runner from the UK.

Vania Stambolova — Bulgarian athlete who competed in the 400m hurdles at London 2012 Olympics.

Martin Rush — Competed in the 1992 Olympic Games 20km Race Walk.

Ernst Fast — finished third in the 1900 Paris Olympic marathon.

Lisa Lightfoot — Australian 800m runner at the 1996 Olympic Games.

Eugene Swift — 110m hurdles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
