KEEP YOUR CANDLE BURNING

Now I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea and thinking that I've gone over to the other (Robert's side) here but I watched this video yesterday and found it to be very moving.

Nick Cave has been in the news because, surprisingly, he is supporting King Charles III's coronation and will be attending the ceremonies thereby disproving I guess the old adage that  real men don't eat quiche.

I like Cave's music as I'm drawn to the dark songs in the final albums of David Bowie, Warren Zevon and Johnny Cash and songs from Scott Walker, Violent Femmes, Joy Division and Leonard Cohen among others.

Have a look at this and see if it stirs your soul.

He professes deep pain and longing stemming from a break-up of a relationship. Nothing to do with 'faith'. If he had come out with "professing actual faith" I wouldn't have been posting this.

I much prefer this personal statement of his"

"I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms."

This is a grown up person's lament not a silly and immature person's wittering on 'faith'.

Note: After this song was written Cave lost two of his sons (one an accident, the other a suicide but I guess they are the same thing) and the song took on a more powerful personal meaning for him.

Robert, I do (even though I don't show it) have respect for your beliefs but when you express naive, 'primary school' attitudes to life experiences (and you do have these like we all do) I feel that I have to step in and say - "grow up".

Sorry but your response confirms naivety and, yes, immaturity if you say things like:

* God created you.
* God wants to give love freely.

Faith is not reality.Faith, according to Webster's dictionary is "strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof".

Don't lecture me on suicide unless you have first-hand experience of losing a loved one through suicide.

One of the nicest things anyone has ever done for us. We still talk about that.
