I have exciting news for you readers.
I ordered 'Sectare Fidem - Celebrating 125 Years (1885 to 2010' from St Patrick's College on Monday and it arrived in the post today. This is 263 pages in large landscape format, quality written, edited and printed all for $30 including courier costs. I'm impressed.
That's just part of the good news (did you see what I did there?) as the content of the book will stimulate many posts. Maybe it will require the services of a new and specially dedicated Curmudgeon? Your feedback on this and a possible name will be appreciated and given due consideration.
Already I've thought of some post topics:
- The truth behind the classroom situation beneath the science block.
- School 'clubs' that attracted the girls.
- School 'clubs' that failed to attract the girls.
- School 'clubs' best forgotten altogether.
- The best rugby team in the history of the school - **Warning** this is controversial.
- Where the 3G and 3P2 boys were
herdedselected from. - What happened to Saint Bonaventure's sermons, printed in 1481?
.... and lots more.
The book contains photographs of all your favourite priests including Fathers Minto, O'Neill, McCann, Scambury, Wysocki, O'Connor, Bliss, Durning, Unverricht and others along with lay teachers Naylor, Stodart and the disgraced Hickey.
In fairness to the confidentiality for those contained in this excellent treatise however I think that readers should successfully answer a question in order to be granted access to these upcoming posts.
Here is the question"
What is the third line in the school anthem 'Sectare Fidem's chorus?
15 comments:
Teach us dear Lord, our Faith to hold,
Teach us to hope and trust in Thee;
Teach us the love that men of old
Learnt from St Patrick’s charity.
You can see the third line there...
It's all about old men.
Hickey wasn't the only disgraced one.
Wrong.
OK, you are right about "old men" but I asked for the third line in the chorus. Sheesh!
Normally this would have meant that you were excluded but, since that you are a fairly regular reader you can have another go.
"Hickey wasn't the only disgraced one."
True but, in the time we were there - 1966 to 1970 he was the only one that I'm aware of.
Already, even without Robert's support this post is proving to be very popular.
If the readers manage to answer the authorisation question correctly in order to be able to gain access to the future posts on the subject - who knows - it might prove to be the best Curmudgeon series ever.
Don't forget to register your opinion on whether a 'Sectare Fidem' -type Curmudgeon is needed and, if so, what name should he/she/it go under.
"The Sectare Fidem Curmudgeon - It's 12 inches long but I don't use it as a rule"*
* Sectare Fidem is our rule
I give you Nunn out of ten for that ‘joke’.
Still wrong though. You have one more chance before you're blacklisted.
LOYAL TO HOME, CHURCH, CROWN AND SCHOOL - 3rd line of Chorus.
The Paddy Curmudgeon.
Well done. You (eventually) noticed the subtle clue in the post title.
No to ‘The Paddy Curmudgeon’.
The 3P Curmudgeon!
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!
I appreciate your enthusiasm and adulation but, no.
OK, you're in too.
I'd better get cracking and write another post.
