WELCOME TO THE MACHINE ...

I've just been watching the latest John Oliver episode on TV. This first in the new season looks at OpenAI and ChatGPT.

This is very interesting and also scary. Plagiarism has been rife since the early days of the internet but now this very clever AI programme automatically creates 'essays' based on whatever question you ask. This is generated in seconds. On the face of it these 'essays' are well written and may be factually correct. Maybe Robert can start writing his posts using this.

I trialled it tonight and asked a few silly questions and immediately received responses as you can see here:

Wow!

As I said, these responses came through in seconds.

I guess that we can wave goodbye to creativity and effort now.

Scary but good replies.

I think that for the odd post I write I will add at the bottom an answer that ChatGPT comes up with.

I asked ChatGPT a question and got a very good answer.

Is The NZ Curmudgeon a good blog?

The NZ Curmudgeon has been praised by many readers as an entertaining and informative blog. It covers a wide range of topics, from politics and current events to personal musings and humour. Readers appreciate its unique perspective and sharp wit.

It's not always correct though and I think that it makes things up like I do.

See this:

What did Peter McDonald do In Constellation Wines NZ?

Peter McDonald was the Chief Executive Officer of Constellation Wines NZ from 2005-2010. In this role, he was responsible for the overall strategic direction and management of the company, including marketing, sales, operations and finance. He also led the team in achieving significant growth in the New Zealand wine industry.

I like this robot.

"Of course, it is only as good as the programmers who coded it!"

Exactly, but these programmers have set something in motion that continues to replicate. The AI app (ChatGPT) picks up fact, analysis, opinion and gossip from billions of entries on the internet and, in seconds, reinterprets these to form an answer to the subscribers question. This unfortunately can go beyond the "it is only as good as the programmers who coded it" argument. It is going to rapidly become 'Fake news' way beyond whatever FOX NEWS and tha fat orange idiot Donald Trump ever dreamed of.
