..... I used to go to Downtown at the other end of town.
I guess Richard went to the Casa because of its reputation for jazz which I hadn't embraced at this stage only happily discovering the enjoyment of it later.
I started going to Downtown while still at school in the 6th form in 1969 feeling a little intimidated I must admit but enjoying the bands that played there like the great Quincy Conserve.
I was too young to buy alcohol and 'wouldn't say boo to a goose', preferring to stand at the back in the shadows rather than be up front dancing. Like Tony and Richard I adopted the cool and indifferent slouch hoping that it made me 'interesting'.
It didn't work but the music was good.

The singer?
The singer, Malcolm, died quite young. He came to my flat once to check me out for a gig. I was flatting with Robert and Robert answered the door and told him I was already in a band. True story and a chance at local fame lost.
Yeah, Malcolm Hayman. What a voice. If he'd been in a British band at the time he would have been very famous.
Shame about that missed opportunity - well done Robert!
I guess that was the flat in Northland (Wellington, not the winterless north). It was there that you became famous - infamous really - for ruining a Chateau Margaux vertical tasting by putting lemonade in the wines. A similar vertical tasting of a First Growth Bordeaux like Chateau Margaux today would cost at least $20,000 . Well doe that man also!
