MISCELLANEOUS

There are so many things that I'd like to post about this week but just don't have enough time. The thought crossed my mind that I could just condense them to bullet note observations and put them in the one post - MISCELLANEOUS. If successful this could become an occasional series. Here's hoping.

To follow are samples of what this new series could look like. Feel free to leave a comment as we value your input.

ROBERT'S DISTURBING IMAGES.

With increasing frequency, Robert posts images of his wife's injuries that are unsettling. I'm never in a hurry to check out his posts but knowing that there is yet another scary image (of Sue's injuries or of some random abortion) awaiting as soon as I click on the link to his blog makes me even more reticent.

OVERUSE OF MAORI LANGUAGE.

The current debate on Waka Kotahi (New Zealand Transport Authority)'s plan to have bilingual road signs is just silly. Any debate on this though  eventually falls into the old race debate which is unfair given the % of Maori speaking vs English speaking people in this country. I also get irked when listening to National Radio news and getting an out of proportion smattering of Maori words to the point where it becomes incomprehensible. Use of words like whenua, mōrena, koha, aroha, whaea, tamaiti,  tamariki, whakapapa, kaumātua, tama , tamāhine, tāne, and wahine in news reports that are not about Maori issues is invasive.

THE DEBATE ABOUT LOWERING THE VOTING AGE TO 16.

Jesus ('sheesh' just wasn't strong enough)! WTF?

16 year olds haven't got enough sense to keep away from vaping, Chinese run media platforms, on-line pornography, fads like forming Andrew Tate appreciation clubs, violent video gaming, experimenting with drugs, driving dangerously and spending their lives on their phones. How the hell can they be expected to make responsible decisions re voting? I know, I know, I was just as stupid at 16 but I wouldn't have given the vote to me either. I guess The Greens will be the big winner if this ever gets through.

SELLING OFF OF AUCKLAND AIRPORTS SHARES.

Wayne bloody Brown, the wrecker, has now been given the chance of further fucking up Auckland. It's no wonder that his property and investment owning supporters voted him in. He's hell bent on splitting up the city's resources and selling them off. Didn't we learn anything from the selling off of national assets in the 1980s to greedy opportunists like Fay and Richwhite? The airports shares are at a low because of Covid-19 and air travel woes so selling now is just dumb. The jackals will have a field day and turn the cheaply bought shares into huge profits when there is a turnaround.

Are you suggesting that I was ranting?

I'm really, really thinking about Wayne Brown. But why should rate paying Aucklanders have to support an international airport that is running at a loss?
We all know councils are subject to influence by the round table.
Better to have an independent CEO. Maybe Chris!

The airport will soon be running at a profit and have a much higher value than it is now. Why give that away to greedy off-shore investors?

I'm on Peter's side with this.
