WHAT I DID YESTERDAY

5 hours of walking yesterday left me a bit stiff and sore today.

We went on the Hatea River walk from the town basin to Whangarei Falls yesterday. This is along and at parts strenuous walk along the river and up and over dense kauri and other NZ natives bush. It is stunningly beautiful and very well maintained although there is still evidence of damage from last year's cyclones.

Here are just a few of the many photographs I took some of which will be good for screensavers.

Large paryphanta or kauri snail that I removed from the track and put in the bush at the side

Cyclone damage

Lots of 'up'

Interesting colours in this fungus

The canopy walkway at treetop level

Like something from a fantasy film

Don't be mean... ..he saved a native snail it may have been the last one... the water in that stream looked so clear...were the waterfalls on the way or the main event? Are there trout in those streams?

Well Robert, thanks for reading that and understanding, not like your older and increasingly doolally brother who thinks that woodlands is some sort of heaven for double basses and violins.
To answer your questions:

The kauri snail is endangered.

Northland water is mostly unpolluted unless next to one of those bastard dairy farms.

The waterfalls are at the end of the walk or halfway if you have to turn and go back again like we did (but by a different route).

I doubt if there are trout in the river and streams as Northland has high Maori ownership and governance so invasive introduced species are frowned upon. I'd guess that the streams have indigenous eels, koura and fish.

Have you read the post after this one? The video is well worth a look. No fun is made of christianity, not even that strange catholicism you follow.

I liked those photographs and would d like to see more. This has enthused me to visit your beautiful country, especially at the northern end.
Is it safe?
I hope so but am worried about that 'NOT' guy. Is he a terrorist, a MAGA supporter or one of those indigenous people?
Please advise before I confirm my flight details.
