VERY MESSY

I bought a month pass to Sky Sport so as to watch the elimination rounds of FIFA World Cup Football. I know, I know - it's politically incorrect to be seen to be supporting this sporting travesty from a dodgy country that has very repressive laws but, let's face it, anything done by FIFA, like the IOC is dodgy.

New Zealand aren't in this competition, having been eliminated in the qualifying match by a referee who was probably in the pay of Costa Rica:

ALL WHITES V COSTA RICA

It's a chance though to watch some of the best players in this 'beautiful game' take the field.

While writing this I'm watching Australia play Argentina in the play off for the quarter finals. It's the second half and the score is 1:0 to Argentina after Lionel Messi scored a brilliant goal at the end of the first half. He showed why he's the best in the world after taking a corner kick, following up with an intercept and then scoring from inside the penalty area.  He's like the Energiser bunny in being everywhere, full of energy. It was pure class and this is why I decided to watch. To be honest the scores don't really matter to me as I have no favourite that I want to win this competition.

**STOP PRESS** Argentina just scored a second goal after the Australian goalkeeper made a silly error. It certainly looks like, in the 63rd minute, that the Argies are going to win.

One of the commentators, fancying his poetic skills, in the manner of William McGonagall, messily said:

"The Doha sky is black but sky blue reigns."

Australia came back to score and kept pressure on the Argies right to the end but the final score was 2:1 to Argentina who go through to the quarter finals.
