WHATEVER THE WEATHER ....

Whether the weather be fine, or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot,
We'll weather the weather
Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not!

I could swear I saw Noah go past the window on his way down our drive during yesterday's deluge.

We had three very major downpours with rain so heavy that the run-off stripped away gravel from our driveway and little rivers ran under the house and down to the sea.

Culverts on the road up the hill behind us were blocked and the road, in places was flooded.

Since the mad woman who owns the farm behind us got it into her head to fill in the swales on the land, we've noticed more run-off during rainstorms. The two neighbours to the right of us recently had  a drain-layer in to dig drains across the back of their properties. I considered it but their properties are flat at the back and ours is elevated which would make operating the digger difficult. After yesterdays diluvial experience though I've changed my mind and will be contacting the or a drain layer. This will be costly and disruptive and will involve the removal of the stairs that go up to the washing line - you know, the ones that Richard obsesses over.

Although the removal will be temporary, it'll piss The Old Girl off.

What will also piss her off is the digging where a trench will need to be dug along the retaining wall meaning the lifting of the bricks.

I just know that she will then say "instead of replacing the bricks Matey, why don't we get a nice pressed concrete area put in like we had in Christchurch?"

The driveway for or Christchurch house that had a big turnaround area covered in the same coloured and pressed concrete.

That's all very well but my main concern, and hopefully one that a drain layer can resolve is how to channel the water from the (filled in) trenches down the driveway to connect with a sewer outlet.

I don't want to ignore this job as I worry that water running beneath the house could compromise the foundations. Today is a cracker of a day with bright sunshine, no wind and a still bay which is totally different from yesterday. The long-term 'summer' forecast for Northland though is for more heavy rainstorms and more flooding.

Sometimes I wish we'd kept the Auckland apartment where outdoor work was someone else's problem.

You should also contact The Possessive Apostrophe Guy.
Maybe the end of the sentence would have worked better as 'and will be contacting the (or a) drainlayer.'

I never said I would be contacting an old pedantic and interfering, retired schoolteacher.
No wonder people stick you down the back of a garden.

Have you told Lynn about the steps coming down yet? I could ring and tell her if you like.

I told her and received a long and silent stare.

A fair result.

I cannot belief you wrote "and hopefully one that a drain layer can resolve is how to channel the water from the (filled in) trenches down the driveway to connect with a sewer outlet".
What are you thinking? Do you want the sewage overflowing at your gate because your stormwater is flowing into it?

Read 'stormwater outlet' for 'sewer outlet'.
Don't get your panties in a twist there second. Calm down, take some deep breaths and have a cup of tea but don't put sugar in it.

Good to see you boys having fun.

Is that an automatic comment like a voice recorded message that comes on after an old guy like you has gone to bed? It gets repeated a lot.
