"WHAT THE HELL IS A LAUNDRY MAT?" ...

.... I asked on Facebook's Neighbourly in a stream of responses to a post about what additional services people wanted at a local shopping centre. A very large number commented that they wanted a laundromat. No, sorry, about 80% of those commenters wrote that they wanted a laundry mat. WTF? Don't people engage their brains when they type something? I can accept that many people can't spell (just read any of Robert's posts) and a word like 'laundromat' in its structure might be different to its pronunciation but really - did they think after typing, what a laundry mat is and why any place would be named that?

I know that I'm sounding like an old pedantic ex-schoolteacher with this but it bugs me that in the 21st century, with centuries of advancements in education, communication and general learning, we are now, due to social media platforms on the slippery downward slope of the other side. Sheesh!

That was surprising even for my spelling.

Neighbourly is shocking with all the very bad spelling and incomprehensibilty from some people’s posts and comments. I used to think we had good literacy in New Zealand but no more.

At least we still have the Catholic Church, it will never change.

Is that a threat?

There are many things that need to change. Here are some things that, in their truest form, don't need to change.

Kindness.

Love.

Climate?

Reliability?

I'm a bit tired, so you other readers can think of some more. After you've come up with some, then think about the things that DO NEED TO CHANGE.

Try to let your thoughts be unbiased and let your automatic go tos be forgotten for a while.

Sickness becomes you.

I hope that this sickness thing doesn't stop you watching the England vs Australian women's football semi final tonight. We've adopted Australia as a proxy Kiwi downunder team don't you know.

I guess Robert thinks that they are just a bunch of sill women chasing a ball around but, whoops - he's a Catholic.

Richard (of RBB) said...

Do sill women actually chase a ball?
Yes, I hope to be watching.
Go the Aussies!

Richard (of RBB) said...

Actually, who are sill women?

Richard (of RBB) said...

Did you mean 'still' women?
Well, they obviously won't be chasing a ball so Robert will be disappointed.

Richard (of RBB) said...

Anyway, go the Aussies!

They're playing on a big field, not a laundry mat.

I'm sorry I asked now.
